Auralization by convolution
Auralization
is the process for making audible a virtual acoustical environment, obtained by convolving anechoic signal with the room’s impulse
response
Input signal
Impulse response (Transfer function)
Output signal
The
convolution operation is very computationally intensive if implemented
directly in time domain.
However, it becomes very efficient if performed in frequency domain through the “overlap-and-save” FFT algorithm
